Theory

Star आज क्यों Dominate करता है

Modern wired networks में, star topology by far सबसे common है। हर device अपने खुद के cable से एक central switch से connect होता है। एक typical office या lab ऐसा ही दिखता है।

Appeal fault isolation है: अगर एक device का cable fail हो, सिर्फ़ वही device drop होता है, बाकी सब काम करते रहते हैं, एक bus के unlike, जहाँ shared backbone में एक break पूरे network को down कर देता है। Catch यह है कि central switch एक single point of failure है: अगर यह मर जाए, पूरा star इसके साथ जाता है। पर switches reliable और replace करने में easy हैं, तो trade इसके worth है, यही वजह है star ने जीता।

Topologies compare करने का सबसे clear तरीका पूछना है: अगर एक link या device fail हो, कितना टूटता है?
