Select a 2-credit Skill Enhancement Course from the University-approved basket, or a KCG-approved MOOC (online mode with credit transfer via ABC)

Your fifth Skill Enhancement Course is one more deliberate choice: a single 2-credit course from the approved skill basket or a KCG-approved online MOOC, whose credits transfer through your ABC account.

Theory

One more time, your choice

Riya is back at the Surat notice board she has read every year, and the two familiar lists are pinned up again: skill courses the college will run, and approved online courses she could finish from her hostel room.

The instruction is the same single line: pick one, worth 2 credits.

This is BCA506, her fifth Skill Enhancement Course. She knows the routine from BCA306 and BCA406, so the rule itself is old news. What is worth a fresh look this time is how the online route is approved and banked, and that is what this page covers.

Theory

Same menu, a named online counter

SEC is still a menu, not a set meal: the university and your institute approve a basket, publish the list, and you order what fits your goals.

What is spelled out clearly this time: the online dish must come from the KCG-approved list (Knowledge Consortium of Gujarat, the state body that recognises online courses), taken in online mode, and its credits are banked in your ABC account. Same free choice as before, with the online route's approval body and credit-store named plainly.

Theory

The rule, plainly

For BCA506 you select one 2-credit Skill Enhancement Course from either:

  • the approved skill-based course basket (courses your institute runs or recognises), or
  • a KCG-approved MOOC (an online course on the Knowledge Consortium of Gujarat's approved list), taken in online mode with credits transferred via ABC.

The word still doing the work is approved. Baskets and KCG lists differ between institutes and change between years, so confirm the current list with your institute before you enrol. A random online certificate you find yourself does not count.

Theory

The online route: KCG-approved, banked via ABC

Two names matter for the online option. KCG (Knowledge Consortium of Gujarat) is the state body that coordinates higher education and maintains an approved list of online courses; your MOOC must be on that list to count. ABC (Academic Bank of Credits) is the national digital store of credits under the NEP framework: when you complete the course, the credits are deposited into your personal ABC account and transferred toward your degree.

Why this helps: an online course is approved through a known state channel (KCG) and its credits are recorded in one account you control (ABC), rather than lost on a printed certificate. One honest caution: the exact KCG list and the precise ABC steps are institute-specific, so treat them as the mechanism and confirm the details with your institute.

At a glance

Three roads into the same 2 credits. Each must be approved; the online route must be on the KCG list and banks its credits via ABC.

RouteWhat it looks likeSuits you when
Basket courseA skill course your institute runs or recognises, often with scheduled sessionsYou want structure, campus contact and local guidance
KCG-approved MOOC (via ABC)An online course on the KCG list; credits deposited to your ABC accountYou want flexibility, or a topic the campus list lacks
Internship routeField or internship training in place of a certificate course (next topic)You have access to genuine workplace training

Quiz

Which statement about the BCA506 online route is correct?

  1. Any online course counts as long as you finish it and get a certificate
  2. The MOOC must be KCG-approved and taken in online mode, with its credits transferred via your ABC account
  3. ABC approval removes the need for the course to be on any list
  4. The 2 credits are granted automatically the moment you register
Show the answer

The MOOC must be KCG-approved and taken in online mode, with its credits transferred via your ABC account

The online route requires a KCG-approved MOOC (on the Knowledge Consortium of Gujarat's list), taken in online mode, with credits banked and transferred via your ABC account. Option A ignores approval: an unapproved online certificate earns 0 credits no matter how much work it took. Option C misunderstands ABC, it is a way to STORE and transfer earned credits, not a substitute for the course being on the approved (KCG) list. Option D is false: credits come only on successful completion, never on registration. Approval first (via KCG for MOOCs), then completion, then the credit is banked via ABC.

Think first

Help Jay pick his fifth SEC

Jay is in his final year and wants this SEC to boost his placement chances. The basket offers a Tally with GST workshop; the KCG list has an intermediate data-analytics course he could bank via ABC. Which fits, and what must he confirm first? Then tap.

Show the answer

Lean towards the KCG data-analytics MOOC: it builds directly on his earlier database and programming work right before final-year placements, and banking it via ABC records the credit cleanly. But confirm two things FIRST: (1) that the exact course is on the CURRENT KCG-approved list and its completion window fits the semester, and (2) the precise ABC process at his institute (account setup, how the credit is mapped to BCA506). If either is unclear, the Tally with GST workshop is a strong Gujarat-market fallback that also helps employability. The only wrong move is enrolling in something unapproved, or leaving the KCG-check and ABC steps to the last week.

Watch out

The unapproved-course trap (still true)

Every year a student finishes a long online course, prints the certificate, and learns it earns 0 credits because it was never on the approved (KCG) list. Approval comes before enrolment. And do not assume ABC works itself: set up your account and confirm the deposit process early, so your hard-earned credits actually land where they belong. Keep every certificate and receipt.

Summary

Key takeaways

  • BCA506 (SEC-05) = one 2-credit skill course you choose yourself, your fifth Skill Enhancement Course.
  • Two routes: the approved skill basket, or a KCG-approved MOOC taken in online mode.
  • KCG (Knowledge Consortium of Gujarat) approves the online courses; ABC (Academic Bank of Credits) stores and transfers the earned credits.
  • Approval is still the key requirement: KCG for the online route; neither KCG nor ABC removes it.
  • Confirm the current approved/KCG list AND the exact ABC process with your institute before enrolling.
  • Keep enrolment proof and certificates; credits come only on successful completion.
  • Memory hook: menu not set meal, only approved dishes count, online route is KCG-approved and banked via ABC.
