Table, graph અને formula, આ ત્રણેય એક જ function ને જોવાની અલગ અલગ રીતો છે, અને straight-line data માટે તમે એક પરથી બીજામાં જઈને y = mx + c formula ફરી બનાવી શકો છો.

Auto-rickshaw ના meter નું mystery

ધારો કે તમે સળંગ 3 દિવસ એ જ auto માં જાવ છો.

2 km ના ₹43 થાય. 4 km ના ₹61. અને 6 km ના ₹79.

હવે driver ને પૂછ્યા વગર, તમે 10 km નું ભાડું કહી શકો? આ topic પૂરું થાય એટલે તમે એક minute માં આ કોયડો solve કરી નાખશો, કારણ કે આ numbers ની અંદર જ એક function છુપાયેલું છે, અને data પરથી એનું formula પાછું કેમ બનાવવું એ તમે હમણાં જ શીખવાના છો.

એક જ story ને જોવાની 3 રીતો

Function એટલે એક quantity બીજી quantity પર કઈ રીતે depend કરે છે એની story. Table આ story ને events ના list તરીકે કહે છે, graph એને એક picture તરીકે બતાવે છે, અને formula એને એક જ line ના summary તરીકે કહી દે છે. Construction એટલે એ story ને એક form માં સાંભળીને બીજા form માં ફરી કહેવી. કંઈ નવું બનાવવાનું નથી, ફક્ત એક form માંથી બીજા form માં translate કરવાનું છે.

Straight-line નું formula: y = mx + c

આ level ના મોટાભાગના construction questions linear હોય છે, એટલે કે data આ પ્રમાણે ચાલે છે:

y = mx + c

  • m એ slope છે, એટલે x એક વધે ત્યારે y કેટલું બદલાય
  • c એ y-intercept છે, એટલે x = 0 હોય ત્યારે y ની value, જેને તમે "starting amount" કહી શકો

આ 2 numbers મળી ગયા, એટલે function પૂરેપૂરું ફરી બની ગયું.

Table માંથી: constant difference

Table જુઓ: x = 0, 1, 2, 3 અને એની સામે y = 3, 5, 7, 9.

1. y ના differences check કરો: 5−3 = 2, 7−5 = 2, 9−7 = 2. બધા સરખા છે, એટલે data linear છે અને m = 2.

2. x = 0 વખતે y વાંચો: y = 3, એટલે c = 3.

3. Formula લખો: y = 2x + 3.

હવે જો x = 0 વાળી row ના હોય તો? તો કોઈ પણ known point લો: એના x અને y ને y = mx + c માં મૂકીને c solve કરી નાખો.

એક table માં x = 1, 2, 3, 4 છે અને y = 10, 13, 16, 19 છે. કયું function fit થાય?

y = 3x + 7

y નો difference દર step માં 3 છે, એટલે m = 3. અહીં x = 0 વાળી row નથી, એટલે point (1, 10) વાપરો: 10 = 3·1 + c, એટલે c = 7. Option B માં પહેલી જ y value ને intercept માની લીધી, જે classic shortcut ની ભૂલ છે: 10 એ x = 1 વખતની y છે, x = 0 વખતની નહીં.

Graph માંથી: 2 points

ધારો કે (0, 1) અને (2, 5) માંથી પસાર થતી એક straight line આપી છે:

1. Slope: m = (y₂ − y₁)/(x₂ − x₁) = (5 − 1)/(2 − 0) = 2

2. Intercept: point (0, 1) એ y-axis પર જ છે, એટલે c = 1 સીધું જ મળી ગયું

3. Equation: y = 2x + 1

Graph માં ત્રીજો point દેખાતો હોય તો એનાથી check કરી લો; line ના દરેક point એ equation ને satisfy કરવો જ જોઈએ.

પાછા auto પર આવીએ: 2 km ના ₹43, 4 km ના ₹61, 6 km ના ₹79.

મનમાં ને મનમાં m (per-km rate) અને c (base fare) કાઢો, અને પછી 10 km નું ભાડું predict કરો.

દર 2 km માં ભાડું ₹18 વધે છે, એટલે m = 9 rupees per km. હવે (2, 43) વાપરીએ: 43 = 9·2 + c, એટલે c = 25 (એટલે base fare). Formula: fare = 9x + 25.

10 km માટે: 9·10 + 25 = ₹115. બસ, આ જ છે construction: data અંદર નાખો, formula બહાર કાઢો, અને prediction કરી નાખો.

Word problems તમને m અને c થોડા છુપાવીને આપે છે: "એક fixed charge વત્તા એક constant rate" એ હંમેશા y = mx + c જ હોય.

  • fixed charge, base fare, starting salary → c
  • per km, per hour, per unit → m

એકવાર formula બની જાય, પછી એના પરથી તમે table બનાવી શકો અને graph plot કરી શકો, એટલે આખું circle પૂરું: description → formula → table → graph.

એક cyber cafe બેસવાના ₹20 લે છે અને ઉપરથી per hour ₹15 લે છે. x hours નો total cost y કયું function આપે?

y = 15x + 20

Per-hour નો rate hours સાથે ગુણાય (m = 15) અને એક વખતનો બેસવાનો charge એકલો ઊભો રહે (c = 20). Option A માં બંને ની જગ્યા બદલાઈ ગઈ છે, જે word-problem ની સૌથી common ભૂલ છે: હંમેશા પૂછો કે "કયો number per unit repeat થાય છે?" એ જ m.

Commit કરતા પહેલા check કરો

2 આદતો રાખો તો construction ની લગભગ બધી ભૂલો ટળી જાય: પહેલી, linear માની લેતા પહેલા ખરેખર y ના differences constant છે કે નહીં એ verify કરો (જો બદલાતા હોય, તો function linear નથી અને y = mx + c ત્યાં લાગુ ના પડે), અને બીજી, છેલ્લા equation માં કોઈ એક ના વાપરેલો point જરૂર મૂકીને જુઓ. જો ના બેસે, તો મોટે ભાગે intercept માં જ ગડબડ હોય છે.

Data science માં આને line fitting કહે છે, અને machine learning નો સૌથી simple model, એટલે કે linear regression, એ બીજું કંઈ નહીં પણ data ના table પરથી શીખેલું y = mx + c જ છે. દરેક pricing API, EMI calculator અને physics lab નો graph, બધા આજની આ table, graph અને formula વચ્ચે translate કરવાની skill જ વાપરે છે.
