Group project, ચાર laptops, એક document
Priya ની team નું આવતા અઠવાડિયે એક college group project due છે: એક લખેલી report, એક data sheet, એક slide deck, અને classmates ના મંતવ્યો ભેગા કરવા એક survey. ચાર સભ્યો, ચાર laptops, શહેરભરમાં ફેલાયેલા.
જૂની રીત, files ને આગળ-પાછળ email કરવી, એટલે ચાર અથડાતા versions અને કોઈના laptop પર હંમેશા 'નવીનતમ' છે. અંધાધૂંધી.
એના બદલે એ Google Workspace વાપરે છે: એક report જે દરેક જણ સાથે, live, ક્યાંયથી પણ edit કરે છે, auto-saved, email કરવા કોઈ versions નહીં. આ lesson એ વિશે છે કે કેમ એ કામ કરે છે, અને એ BCA103 વાળા cloud idea પર સીધું બને છે. આખો subject આ group project છે, cloud માં કરેલો.

એક shared whiteboard, photocopies નહીં
Desktop software (તમારા PC પર Word, Excel) દરેક ને અલગ થી mark up કરવા એક photocopy આપવા જેવું છે, પછી scribbles ને merge કરવાની કોશિશ. Google Workspace એક ઓરડામાં એક shared whiteboard છે જ્યાં દરેક જણ online પહોંચી શકે: ચારેય સભ્યો એ જ board પર એ જ સમયે લખે છે, અને એ હંમેશા up to date છે. કોઈ copies નહીં, કોઈ merging નહીં, કોઈ 'કયું version final છે?' નહીં. એક જીવંત document, ઘણા હાથ.

Cloud બધું કેમ બદલે છે
Google Workspace apps browser માં ચાલે છે અને બધું cloud (BCA103) માં store કરે છે, એક Google account થી બંધાયેલી. ત્રણ પરિણામ એને શક્તિશાળી બનાવે છે:
- ક્યાંયથી પણ access: એક browser અને તમારા login વાળું કોઈ પણ device, કોઈ installation નહીં.
- Automatic saving: કોઈ Save button નહીં, દરેક keystroke cloud માં save થાય છે; એક મરેલો laptop કંઈ નથી ખોતો (BCA103 ની Google Doc વાર્તા યાદ કરો).
- Real-time collaboration: ઘણા લોકો એ જ file એકસાથે edit કરે છે, એકબીજાના cursors જોતા.
આ બરાબર એ છે જે desktop Office સ્વાભાવિક રીતે ન કરી શકે, અને કારણ કે student teams અને companies Google Workspace માં રહે છે.

Google Docs સતત cloud માં auto-save કરે છે, કોઈ manual Save નહીં, તો એક crashed device કંઈ નથી ખોતું. Priya કોઈ પણ બીજા device પર log in કરે છે અને document બરાબર એવું છે જેવું એણે છોડ્યું. આ BCA103 ના cloud model નું સીધું ફળ છે: document Google ના servers પર રહે છે, એના laptop પર નહીં. Auto-save વત્તા cloud storage એક મુખ્ય કારણ છે કે Workspace desktop files ને હરાવે છે.

Google Workspace ને એક cloud-based suite તરીકે નામ ન આપવો જે એક browser અને એક Google account થી પહોંચાય છે (installed software નહીં). core apps (Docs, Sheets, Slides, Forms, Drive) અને દરેક શું કરે છે ભૂલવું. અને ત્રણ cloud ફાયદા ચૂકવા, ક્યાંયથી પણ access, auto-save, real-time collaboration, જે આખું કારણ છે કે એ desktop Office ની સામે મહત્વનું છે. cloud ફાયદો જણાવો, examiners કેમ ઇચ્છે છે, ફક્ત app નામ નહીં.

આ BCA103 cloud lesson ને વ્યાવહારિક બનાવેલો છે: 'કોઈ બીજાના ભરોસાપાત્ર computers' જે તમારી files રાખે છે જેથી કોઈ પણ device પહોંચી શકે. હવે તમે ખરેખર એને એક અસલી project બનાવવા વાપરશો. આગળ બધું, Docs, Sheets, Slides, Forms, આ cloud પાયા પર ટકે છે, અને એની મહાશક્તિ (collaboration) દરેક app માં ફરી આવે છે. આગળ: app પરિવારનો એક પ્રવાસ અને એ Drive ના દ્વારા કેવી રીતે જોડાય છે.
