એક manager ને એક cricket team ના captain ની જેમ વિચારો. captain દરેક over નાખતો નથી કે બધા runs બનાવતો નથી. એને બદલે, એ players ને motivate રાખે અને ઝઘડા ઉકેલે છે (interpersonal), રમતને વાંચે અને જે જુએ એ આગળ કહે છે (informational), અને field ગોઠવે અને bowling changes નક્કી કરે છે (decisional). એક captain ના આ કર્યા વગર, અગિયાર પ્રતિભાશાળી players તોય હારી જાય છે, કારણ કે આખી રમતને કોઈ એક સાથે જોડી રહ્યું નથી.
