Evaluated at institute level (50% internal + 50% external); 2 credits granted on successful completion

Your VAC is marked by your institute, half from semester-long participation and half from an end assessment, and completing it adds 2 real credits.

Theory

How do you grade yoga?

A fair question from the back bench: my VAC is yoga practice and a reflection journal, so who marks that, and out of what?

There is no central university paper waiting at the end. The answer is the frame you met in BCA306: evaluated at your institute, half internal, half external, 2 credits on successful completion.

The interesting part is what internal and external mean in a course made of practice and fieldwork.

Theory

The driving licence

A driving licence is earned in 2 halves: weeks of supervised practice recorded in a learner's log, then a test in front of an examiner on the day. Neither half alone proves a driver. A VAC is graded on the same principle: sustained participation across the semester, then an end assessment, and both halves carry equal weight.

Theory

The rule, plainly

BCA307's assessment:

  • Institute-level evaluation: conducted and marked by your institute.
  • 50% internal: accrues through the semester, typically from participation, practice attendance, journals, field logs and assignments.
  • 50% external: an end assessment, such as a report, viva, demonstration or test, as your institute announces.
  • 2 credits granted on successful completion, counted in your degree like any other credits.

At a glance

The 50/50 split and the 2 credits are fixed; the instruments vary by course and institute.

HalfWeightIn a VAC typically
Internal50%Practice attendance, reflection journal, field log, assignments (institute announces the split)
External50%End report, viva, demonstration or test (institute announces the form)

Quiz

Ravi attends every yoga session and keeps a careful practice journal, but skips the end assessment. What has he risked?

  1. Nothing; sincere attendance completes a VAC
  2. Roughly half the marks, and successful completion itself
  3. Only a small penalty of a few marks
  4. His SEC credits as well
Show the answer

Roughly half the marks, and successful completion itself

His semester-long sincerity protects the internal half, but the external assessment is a separate 50%, and successful completion requires the whole evaluation, so skipping it endangers the credits themselves. It is far more than a small penalty. And his SEC is unaffected: BCA306 is evaluated independently. The journal and the finish line both matter.

Think first

Why mark it locally?

Think first: why is a VAC sensibly evaluated at the institute rather than by a central written examination?

Show the answer

Read the design: what a VAC assesses is largely participation and practice, morning sessions attended, field visits made, journals kept over months. Only the institute is present to observe any of that; a central 3-hour paper would see none of it. Local evaluation lets the people who watched the semester mark the semester, while the external half still adds an independent check at the end. The delivery decided the venue of the marking.

Watch out

Evidence cannot be backdated

The trap mirrors BCA306's, and it is sharper here: VAC internal evidence is a diary of things done, practice logs, journals, field notes. None of it can be written honestly in the last week. And do not let 'only 2 credits' talk you into neglect: an incomplete VAC is a real backlog on a real degree requirement. Start the journal on day 1 and let it accumulate.

Theory

Closing the frame

With this topic you hold the complete Semester 3 framework picture: 2 chosen courses (skill and value), 5 delivery modes, and 1 shared evaluation frame, 50/50 at institute level, 2 credits each. The habits these small courses reward, steady logs, honest participation, explaining your work at a viva, are precisely the ones the big project semesters will demand.

Summary

Key takeaways

  • BCA307 is evaluated at institute level; there is no central university paper.
  • 50% internal (participation, journals, logs, through the semester) + 50% external (end assessment).
  • 2 credits are granted on successful completion and count fully in the degree.
  • VAC internal evidence is participation-shaped and cannot be produced retroactively.
  • The frame is identical to BCA306's; together they close Semester 3's framework subjects.
  • Memory hook: graded like a driving licence, the log all semester, the test at the end.
