Conversations and Dialogue writing

Dialogue writing मतलब एक believable बातचीत को script के रूप में लिखना: हर speaker के लिए name, colon, नई line, natural turns, और जो किससे बात कर रहा है उसके हिसाब से सही register.

Theory

जो conversation नकली लगती है

देखिए एक exam का dialogue, student और librarian के बीच:

Student: I desire to procure a book concerning the C programming language.

Librarian: Indeed. Kindly furnish your identity card forthwith.

Grammar के हिसाब से बिल्कुल perfect है, पर सच बताइए, इस दुनिया में आज तक किसी ने ऐसे बात की है क्या? Dialogue writing में सबसे बड़ी कसौटी यही है: क्या असली लोग सच में ऐसे बोलेंगे? यही topic आपको इस test में पास होना सिखाएगा।

Theory

Theory

Layout के rules

इसके written form के कुछ mechanics हैं जिनमें कोई छूट नहीं मिलती:

  • Speaker का label + colon: पहले Ravi: फिर उसकी बात
  • हर बार speaker बदले तो नई line, कोई exception नहीं
  • छोटे, natural sentences: असली बातचीत में लोग short ही बोलते हैं
  • पूरे dialogue में tense और person consistent रहे
  • जहाँ register allow करे वहाँ contractions चलेंगे ("I'm", "can't")

सिर्फ सही layout के भी marks होते हैं; एक बढ़िया conversation भी अगर paragraph form में लिख दी, तो marks जाएंगे।

Theory

Formal या informal: pair को पढ़िए

जो 2 speakers हैं, वही register decide करते हैं:

  • Informal: दोस्त, भाई-बहन, classmates: relaxed शब्द, contractions, हल्के-फुल्के exclamations भी चलेंगे
  • Formal: student-principal, customer-manager, citizen-officer: polite, complete, respectful ("Could you please...", "Thank you, sir")

Exam का question आपको बता देता है कि speakers कौन हैं; वो बताना ही instruction है। 2 दोस्त formal बात करें तो उतना ही गलत है, जितना एक student का principal से slang में बोलना।

Quiz

Task: एक student और bank manager के बीच account खोलने पर dialogue. कौन सी opening line सही बैठती है?

  1. Student: Yo! Need an account, fast.
  2. Student: Good morning, sir. I would like to open a savings account. Could you guide me?
  3. Student: I hereby express my profound desire for the procurement of banking services.
  4. Student: (writes application silently)
Show the answer

Student: Good morning, sir. I would like to open a savings account. Could you guide me?

यहाँ pair formal है, तो polite और complete, पर फिर भी ऐसा जो कोई इंसान सच में BOLE. Option A register में fail है (manager से slang), option C वही नकली-formal बीमारी है (कोई "procurement of services" बोलकर बात नहीं करता), और option D तो dialogue से बचकर निकल जाता है। Formal का मतलब respectful है, robotic नहीं।

Theory

Scene की planning

पहली line लिखने से पहले 4 चीजें तय कर लीजिए:

1. Who, where, what: ये question में से बिल्कुल जैसा है वैसा निकाल लीजिए

2. Purpose: request है? complaint है? information चाहिए? advice? ये purpose हर line को shape देता है

3. 3 से 5 must-cover points: exam specific content चाहता है, उसे पहले list कर लीजिए

4. Shape: greeting → purpose बताना → points को turns में exchange करना → polite close

एक planned dialogue खुद-ब-खुद लिखा जाता है; बिना plan वाला इधर-उधर भटकता है और required points miss कर देता है।

Think first

Task: 2 दोस्त कल के Maths exam की तैयारी पर बात कर रहे हैं, 6-8 turns.

मन में plan कीजिए: purpose, cover करने के 3 points, opening line, closing line. फिर tap कीजिए।

Show the answer

एक साफ-सुथरा plan ऐसा हो सकता है: Purpose: strategy share करना और nerves शांत करना। Points: कौन से units सबसे important हैं, आज रात की revision बाँटना, एक past paper solve करने पर agree होना। Open: "Ready for tomorrow? I'm scared of Unit 3." Close: "Done, video call at 8. We've got this."

Register गौर करिए: contractions, short bursts, असली टेंशन: 2 दोस्त हैं, 2 newsreaders नहीं। 3 points cover करते हुए 6 turns, small talk के बारह turns से हमेशा बेहतर हैं।

Quiz

Show the answer

Formula

Believability की checklist

खत्म करने से पहले चेक कीजिए: क्या हर line ज़ोर से बोली जा सकती है? क्या register pair से match करता है? क्या speakers ने ठीक-ठाक turns में बारी-बारी बात की? क्या सारे required points cover हो गए? क्या शुरू में greeting और अंत में एक natural close है? पाँचों का जवाब हाँ = एक dialogue जो marks लाएगा।

Watch out

2 सबसे बड़े killers

Killer एक: bookish speech ("I desire to procure..."), जो believability में तुरंत fail हो जाती है, formal का मतलब कभी पुराना-ज़माना वाला नहीं होता। Killer 2: small talk चमकाते-चमकाते question के required points ही भूल जाना; examiner पहले content points tick करता है, style बाद में। Points को natural language के अंदर cover कीजिए: बस यही पूरा खेल है।

Summary

Key takeaways

  • Dialogue एक बातचीत का script form है: label, colon, हर speaker के लिए नई line.
  • Speaker की pair register तय करती है: दोस्तों के लिए relaxed, formal pairs के लिए polite, कभी bookish नहीं.
  • लिखने से पहले who/where/what, purpose, और 3 से 5 required points plan कर लीजिए.
  • Natural मतलब short alternating turns जो situation को आगे बढ़ाएँ.
  • Memory hook: अगर आप उसे ज़ोर से बोल नहीं सकते, तो लिखिए मत.
