Barrier मतलब वो हर चीज़ जो sent message और received meaning के बीच में आ जाती है: चाहे room में हो, language में हो, mind में हो, या organisation में।

एक lecture, 4 तरह की failure

एक professor recursion समझा रहे हैं। एक घंटे में:

  • बाहर drilling का शोर हो रहा है और 2 slides किसी ने सुनी ही नहीं
  • आधी class को "stack frame" word ही नहीं पता
  • एक student professor से इतना डरता है कि कुछ पूछ ही नहीं पाता
  • और जो doubt एक backbencher ने पिछले हफ्ते email किया था, वो अभी तक department के clerk के पास ही अटका पड़ा है

एक ही lecture, पर 4 students के लिए fail होने के 4 बिल्कुल अलग-अलग reasons। Communication में इन्हें 4 families के barriers के रूप में पढ़ते हैं।

Message के सफर के checkpoints

एक message एक दिमाग से दूसरे दिमाग तक ऐसे जाता है जैसे एक parcel पूरे शहर में। ये खराब हो सकता है मौसम की वजह से (environment), गलत address label की वजह से (language), receiver के शक करके delivery लेने से मना कर देने की वजह से (psychology), या फिर एक warehouse में एक हफ्ते तक पड़े रहने की वजह से (organisation)। एक ही parcel, पर मरने के 4 अलग-अलग checkpoints।

Barrier कहते किसे हैं

Barrier to communication मतलब anything that prevents a message from being received or understood as intended.

ये definition जानबूझकर इतनी broad रखी गई है: blocker surroundings में हो सकता है, words में, लोगों में, या system में। Exam में marks इसी बात के मिलते हैं कि आप examples को सही family में डाल पाएं, तो हर family को उसके telltale sign यानी पहचान के साथ याद रखिए।

Physical और semantic barriers

  • Physical (environmental): यहाँ बाहर की दुनिया interfere करती है। Traffic का शोर, दूरी, खराब microphones, power cut, ऐसा projector जो पढ़ा ही न जाए। पहचान: message ठीक से पहुँचता ही नहीं।
  • Semantic (language): यहाँ words interfere करते हैं। ऐसा jargon जो receiver ने कभी सीखा ही नहीं, ambiguous phrases ("revert back to me"), गलत translation। पहचान: message perfectly पहुँच जाता है, फिर भी उसका मतलब गलत निकलता है।

Semantic barrier

Environment तो perfect था; गड़बड़ WORDS में हुई, अनजाना jargon मतलब sender और receiver दोनों उसका अलग-अलग meaning लगा रहे हैं। यही semantic है। शांत room सिर्फ physical barriers हटाता है, और यहाँ hierarchy का कोई role था ही नहीं।

Psychological और organizational barriers

  • Psychological (personal): यहाँ mind interfere करता है। Prejudice, trust की कमी, गुस्सा, डर, stress, शर्म, या फिर सीधे-सीधे ध्यान से न सुनना। एक stressed student को neutral remark में भी criticism सुनाई देती है।
  • Organizational (structural): यहाँ system interfere करता है। Command की लंबी chains जो message को बदल देती हैं, कौन किससे बात कर सकता है इसके rigid rules, और information overload जहाँ जरूरी email 50 circulars के बीच में दब जाती है।

Semantic problem words में रहती है, तो words ही ठीक कीजिए: plain language, defined terms, एक sentence का एक ही meaning। जोर से बोलना सिर्फ physical noise में काम आता है, hierarchy flat करना organizational barriers के लिए है, और trust बनाना psychological का इलाज है। Barrier की family से उसका सही remedy match करना, यही exam का favourite twist है।

Remedy का toolkit

हर family का एक remedy: environment को शांत करिए या equipment ठीक करिए (physical); simple और unambiguous language use करिए (semantic); actively सुनिए और trust बनाइए (psychological); chains छोटी करिए और फालतू circulars कम करिए (organizational)। और चारों के लिए एक universal remedy: feedback मांगिए, क्योंकि feedback से ही तो पता चलता है कि barrier था भी।

2 आदतें इस question में डुबा देती हैं: barriers बस list कर देना पर हर एक के साथ एक EXAMPLE न देना (marks तो examples में ही हैं), और families को mix कर देना, jargon को psychological barrier बता देना या डर को semantic। हर एक को उसकी पहचान से बांध लीजिए: world, words, mind, system।
