Cramer's Rule

Cramer's rule सिर्फ determinants से equations का system solve कर देता है: x = Dx/D और y = Dy/D, जहाँ Dx और Dy बस constants को सही column में डाल देते हैं।

"मेरे 2 samosa और 3 tea के ₹39 लगे।"

"मेरे 1 samosa और 2 tea के ₹23 लगे।"

अब बताइए, एक samosa की कीमत कितनी है? आप substitute करके, rearrange करके भी निकाल सकते हैं, पर exam के pressure में बीच में कहीं एक sign गलत हो जाता है। एक तरीका ऐसा भी है जो सिर्फ 4 छोटी lines में हो जाता है, कोई rearranging नहीं, और वो चलता है determinants पर। ये तरीका Gabriel Cramer ने 1750 में खोजा था।

Swap in the constants

System को columns में लिख लीजिए: एक x column, एक y column, और एक answers column। अब Cramer का trick ये है: x निकालना है तो coefficient वाली grid लीजिए और answers column को x की जगह पर बिठा दीजिए। y निकालना है तो उसे y की जगह पर बिठा दीजिए। हर swap से एक नया determinant बनता है, और इन्हीं के ratios से आपको unknowns मिल जाते हैं।

System को इस तरह लीजिए: a₁x + b₁y = c₁ और a₂x + b₂y = c₂:

D = | a₁ b₁ | Dx = | c₁ b₁ | Dy = | a₁ c₁ |

अब, बशर्ते D ≠ 0 हो:

x = Dx / D और y = Dy / D

Dx वही D है जिसमें x वाले column को constants से बदल दिया, और Dy में y वाला column बदला जाता है।

  1. Coefficients से D बनाइए और उसकी value निकालिए 2×2 determinant: ad - bc।
  2. Check कीजिए कि D ≠ 0 है अगर D = 0 है तो कोई unique solution नहीं होता और Cramer's rule use नहीं कर सकते। साफ लिख दीजिए और वहीं रुक जाइए।
  3. Dx बनाइए: constants को x column में डालिए y column ज्यों का त्यों रहेगा।
  4. Dy बनाइए: constants को y column में डालिए x column ज्यों का त्यों रहेगा।
  5. Divide कीजिए: x = Dx/D, y = Dy/D फिर x और y को किसी एक original equation में वापस डालकर check कर लीजिए।

System: 2x + 3y = 39 और x + 2y = 23 (यहाँ x = samosa, y = tea)।

D = | 2 3 | = 2·2 - 3·1 = 1

Dx = | 39 3 | = 39·2 - 3·23 = 78 - 69 = 9

Dy = | 2 39 | = 2·23 - 39·1 = 46 - 39 = 7

तो x = 9/1 = ₹9 एक samosa का, और y = 7/1 = ₹7 एक tea का। Check कर लेते हैं: 2·9 + 3·7 = 39. एकदम सही।

Dx में x वाले column को (5, 1) से बदलिए: 5·(-1) - 1·1 = -6, तो x = -6/-2 = 3।

Dy में y वाले column को बदलिए: 1·1 - 5·1 = -4, तो y = -4/-2 = 2।

Check: 3 + 2 = 5 और 3 - 2 = 1। बीच में determinant negative आ जाए तो घबराइए मत, वो बिल्कुल normal है, division में सब साफ हो जाता है।

D = 0

x = Dx/D में हम D से divide करते हैं, और zero से divide करना meaningless है: D = 0 का मतलब lines parallel हैं या एक ही हैं, यानी कोई unique solution ही नहीं है। Constants zero होना कोई problem नहीं (answers शायद 0 आएँ), और negatives या fractions से rule को कोई फर्क नहीं पड़ता।

हमेशा एक column, और खास तौर पर उसी unknown का column जिसे आप solve कर रहे हैं। Row replace कर देना (option B) exam में सबसे common गलती है, और y वाला column replace करेंगे तो वो Dy बन जाएगा, यानी गलत unknown।

2×2 determinant के अंदर sign की गलती (याद रखिए, ये ad minus bc है); Dx बनाते वक्त column की जगह row replace कर देना; और आखिर में D से divide करना भूल जाना, यानी Dx और Dy को ही "answer" मान लेना। अगर D = 0 निकल आए तो आगे मत बढ़िए: लिख दीजिए "D = 0, no unique solution, Cramer's rule not applicable" और अपने marks ले लीजिए।

3 unknowns वाला case भी बिल्कुल इसी तरह चलता है, बस 3×3 determinants के साथ, हर variable के लिए एक column swap। Electrical engineers इसी से circuit equations solve करते हैं। और एक बात notice कीजिए: पिछले topic का inverse भी |A| ≠ 0 माँगता था। वही एक ही gatekeeper यहाँ भी है, क्योंकि X = A⁻¹B और Cramer's rule दोनों एक ही answer तक पहुँचने के 2 रास्ते हैं।
