ये काम आप equations के साथ पहले से करते हैं

ज़रा दिमाग में solve कीजिए: x + y = 5 और 2x + 2y = 10.

आपने शायद दूसरी equation को आधा किया, देखा कि ये तो वही पहली वाली है, और आगे बढ़ गए। equation को आधा करना, कौन सी पहले लिखनी है वो बदल देना, एक को दूसरे में जोड़ देना: ऐसे तो आप हमेशा equations के साथ खेलते रहते हैं, और answer कभी नहीं बदलता।

Matrices में भी बिल्कुल यही खेल allowed है। बस इन moves के नाम होते हैं, और exam में ये बहुत पूछे जाते हैं।

Marksheet को shuffle करना

एक class की marksheet लीजिए। 2 students की rows swap कर दीजिए: data वही, बस order नया। किसी एक subject के marks out-of-50 से out-of-100 में बदलने के लिए उस column को double कर दीजिए: performance वही, बस scale नया। class के बारे में कोई सच्चाई नहीं बदली। Transformations matrix को दोबारा arrange करते हैं, बिना ये बिगाड़े कि वो क्या कह रहा है।

3 legal moves

Rows के लिए (columns में भी वही चलता है, बस R की जगह C):

  • Swap: Rᵢ ↔ Rⱼ, 2 rows अपनी जगह बदल लेती हैं।
  • Scale: Rᵢ → kRᵢ, किसी एक row के हर entry को एक constant k से multiply कर देना, और k कभी 0 नहीं होना चाहिए।
  • Add a multiple: Rᵢ → Rᵢ + kRⱼ, किसी दूसरी row का k गुना इस row में जोड़ देना।

बस इतनी ही list है। इसके अलावा कोई भी move illegal है।

Worked example: target है zeros बनाना

पूरा खेल आमतौर पर यही होता है, zeros बनाना। A को लीजिए:

Step 1: R₁ ↔ R₂, 1 को ऊपर ले आइए (छोटे leading numbers हों तो अगला step साफ-सुथरा बनता है):

Step 2: R₂ → R₂ - 2R₁, नीचे वाले 2 को मारने के लिए: 2 - 2·1 = 0 और 4 - 2·3 = -2:

Row 1 बिल्कुल नहीं बदलती: ये move सिर्फ उसी row को rewrite करता है जिसका नाम arrow के बाईं तरफ लिखा है।

Rows (7 5) और (9 6)

Columns ऊपर से नीचे खड़े रहते हैं, तो C₁ ↔ C₂ दोनों vertical lines को swap करता है: (5,6) की जगह (7,9) आ जाती है, और rows बनती हैं (7 5) और (9 6)। Option B तो ROW swap है, और option C transpose है, दोनों classic confusion हैं।

यहाँ marks लीक होते हैं

3 आदतें जो marks खा जाती हैं: row के कुछ ही entries को transform करना (move तो row के हर entry पर लगता है), k = 0 से scale करना (इससे तो पूरी row की information मिट जाती है, इसलिए ये allowed नहीं है), और एक ही step में 2 rows बदल देना (R₂ → R₂ + kR₁ सिर्फ row 2 को rewrite करता है, row 1 वहीं की वहीं रहती है)। हर step के आगे move का नाम ज़रूर लिखिए, examiner इसे देखते हैं।

ये moves ही Gauss elimination हैं, वही method जिससे computers हज़ारों equations के systems solve करते हैं। आपका अगला topic, inverse निकालना, पूरा का पूरा सिर्फ row transformations से हो सकता है। और अभी-अभी जो "zeros बनाओ" वाली आदत आपने practice की, वो दोनों के दिल में बैठी है।
