એ total જે જાતે બદલાઈ ગયો
Meera January નો grand total એક cell માં compute કરે છે, પછી એને copy કરીને પોતાની summary sheet માં paste કરે છે. Number પહોંચતાં જ બદલાઈ જાય છે: 12,000, 0 બની જાય છે.
એણે mouse થી કંઈ ખોટું ન કર્યું. એણે ખોટું સમજ્યું કે "copy" એ શું copy કર્યું.
સાદું paste એ number લાવતું નથી જે તમે જુઓ છો. એ નીચેનું formula લાવે છે, અને એક formula એ cells ને point કરે છે જે નવી જગ્યાએ મોજૂદ નથી. એને ઠીક કરવા માટે જ Paste Special બન્યું હતું.

recipe copy કરવી સામે dish copy કરવી
જો તમે એક recipe ની photocopy કરો ("તમારી સામેના બે વાટકા ઉમેરો") અને કોઈને એક ખાલી રસોડામાં આપો, તો એ કંઈ બનાવતા નથી, સૂચના એ વાટકાની વાત કરે છે જે એમની પાસે નથી. એને બદલે જો તમે એમને તૈયાર dish આપો, તો એમને ખાવાનું મળે છે. સાદું paste recipe (formula) copy કરે છે; Paste Values dish (compute કરેલો number) copy કરે છે. Meera ને dish જોઈતી હતી.

Format Painter અને look વાળા tools
એક વાર Meera એક heading style કરી લે છે (bold, centred, પીળો fill), એ ઇચ્છે છે કે દરેક heading એવી દેખાય. એ બધું ફરી કરી શકે, કે:
- Style કરેલા cell પર click કરો, Format Painter (paintbrush) પર click કરો, પછી target પર click કરો: look copy થઈ જાય છે, content અકબંધ.
- ઘણા cells પર લગાવતા રહેવા paintbrush પર double-click કરો; રોકવા Esc દબાવો.
ખુદ look વાળા tools: Font (typeface, size, bold), Fill (cell નો background રંગ), Alignment (left/centre/right, top/middle, લાંબા labels માટે Wrap Text, cells જોડવા Merge).

Marks ક્યાં કપાય છે
Paste "જે value તમે જુઓ છો" copy કરે છે એમ કહેવું, એ formula અને formatting copy કરે છે; દેખાતું value બસ આજનું result છે. Format Painter (ફક્ત look) ને copy-paste (content + look) સાથે ભેળવવું. અને cut સામે copy: cut MOVE કરે છે (origin ખાલી થાય છે), copy નકલ બનાવે છે (origin રહે છે). Merge Cells માં પણ એક trap છે: એ ફક્ત ઉપર-ડાબે ની value રાખે છે અને બાકી છોડી દે છે, exams પૂછે છે બાકીના cells ના data નું શું થાય છે (જવાબ: ખોવાઈ જાય છે).

એ આદત જે reports બચાવે છે
Professionals કોઈ spreadsheet ને પોતાની team ની બહાર મોકલતાં પહેલાં paste-values કરે છે, જેથી મેળવનાર સ્થિર numbers જુએ, નહીં કે એવા formulas જે એની machine પર તૂટી જાય. એ "export to PDF" નો spreadsheet વાળો ભાઈ છે. આગળનો lesson એ numbers ને ખરેખર પૈસા અને percentages જેવા બતાવે છે, એ number-format tools જે 0.6 ને 60% અને 12000 ને 12,000 બનાવી દે છે.
